The ESG concept was first introduced by the United Nations in its 2006 Principles for Responsible Investment, but has become more widespread in recent years. The acronym ESG is an amalgamation of the English words "Environmental, Social, Governance" and refers to criteria and standards for companies' environmental and social performance and their management and governance. The ESG concept itself is based on socially responsible business and reflects the need for investors to gain insight into the environmental, governance and social behaviour of companies
- Grand Hotel Hradec is a modern and energy-efficient building located in Pec pod Sněžkou. It uses unique energy sources and is designed with ESG (environmental, social and governance) factors in mind.
- In 2017, it was awarded a special prize for sustainable development by the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic within the Czech Energy and Environmental Project (CEEP)
- The 20 geothermal boreholes, which are used to heat the hotel, together with mountain air recovery , create a system that is more environmentally friendly and helps to maintain a constant and comfortable temperature in the hotel, regardless of the season.
- 1 131 m2 of triple glazing was used in the construction, which is one of the other factors of low energy consumption.
- The solar panels on the roof, which use the sun's energy to generate electricity, are capable of producing 20 kWp, helping to reduce the consumption of electricity from the local grid.
Thanks to these innovative solutions, the energy consumption has been reduced and minimise the environmental impact of the hotel.
